The Sea Surface Salinity (SSS) in the Bay of Bengal is a major signature of the monsoon in India. The freshwater fluxes come from the delta of the Ganges and the Brahmapoutra. The maximum of debit is in October, two months later the maximum rain over India. The SSS follow well the altimeter surface currents in October, see the Figure, from 2003 up/left to 2008 down/right.
